A good coffee shop can sometimes be hard to find. Thankfully, that isn’t the case in Franklin County because of the Rustic Brew! I got to know the ladies there VERY well when I worked only a few doors down the street…probably too well, but I don’t regret it! 😉 However, I’ve known owners Kathy & Joel Heuer since I was in high school and love what they’ve done with this main street coffee shop!
Developing Rustic Brew
After working in a law office for 24 years, Kathy felt it was time for a change. She also knew how much Joel liked brewing beer, so it seemed natural to purchase the shop which was “Mary B’s” at the time and take it over and transform it into the Rustic Brew. They decided to not only take over the coffee shop, but also add a microbrewery with Joel doing the brewing. Opening in January of 2013, they now offer a variety of different items including specialty coffees, smoothies, beer, retail items, and delicious homemade foods! They also have a room for parties and business meetings. They host class reunions, baby and bridal showers and also do light catering.
Delicious Brews & Eats
When I asked Kathy what their most popular menu item is, she said it would be a tough choice between the Reuben and their homemade chicken salad. I can vouch for both and can say they are both amazing! I’ve been there for lunch as well as consuming several cups of chai and lattes. They also do special events in the evenings. My hubby and I enjoyed a delicious meal there one Valentine’s Day!
What’s the thing that surprises people about the Rustic Brew? She said the atmosphere is probably #1! They have a lot of people come in for the first time and comment about how amazing it is! People are also very suprised that they brew their own beer there. You are free to taste test the brews and Kathy says it’s fun to see people’s reaction and find out how they come up with recipes and the names of the beers. Maybe you want to try a Slobberknocker or a Slightly Off Kilter. They also have a wide range of ages visit! They have kids, teachers, and business people who will meet up at their establishment or come to study/work and use their WiFi.
Owning Rustic Brew
The Heuer’s have really enjoyed owning a business in Hampton (they aren’t originally from Hampton and don’t live in town)! The Rustic Brew is a member of the “Hampton Specialty Shops” group and the support that Hampton residents give them has been fantastic. They have been able to meet so many great people and meet new ones every day! Not only do they enjoy the Hampton customers, but all the customers from surrounding communities and visitors from other states! The customers love coming in and trying the beers. Joel also loves visiting with them and getting feedback about the taste and about different breweries in the area!
So, what are their hopes and dreams for the Rustic Brew? They simply hope to continue to serve the community and receive great support. They want to continue meeting new customers and serving their regulars. Hours of business are Monday-Wednesday from 7:30AM-5:00PM; Thursday 7:30AM-7PM, Friday 7:30AM-9PM, and Saturday 8AM-9PM. Stop in and try the Apple Spice Chai or anything from their menu. I know you won’t be disappointed and don’t forget to tell them Katy sent you!
