Direct Sales & Social Media

Oh, where do I begin?? People in direct sales and social media…they make me want to cringe! Not all of them, but a handful of them!

Now, before you start hating on me for hating on DS…I am IN direct sales. I sell for two different companies!! I’ve sold for Jamberry Nails for almost 3 years now and Norwex for almost a year and let me tell you, I LOVE both companies that I sell for. I love the way their treat their consultants, I love the financial bonus it provides for me and my family, and most importantly, I love the products that I sell…if I didn’t feel this way about either company, I’d drop it like a ton of bricks, but…people can trust me because I’m not selling 100% of the time!

Direct Sales is a balancing act. You have to balance selling and not selling as to not push your family and friends away. I also know how hard someone in direct sales has to work to make a profit! Today, it seems like everyone is a consultant for something and there are a million and a half companies out there! It is because of that that I have to be even more conscious to be careful not to push my friends and family away with my sales! So, here are a few simple tips to remember.

Facebook Group or Page for Direct Sales??

You’re in business! You’ve got a brick and mortar store or have just decided to start selling for a direct sales company! You’re very excited to start spreading the word…now, to get a presence on Facebook, right? The number one rule is to not flood your personal feed with your business!! (See THIS post if you’re curious about why!) That’s great and I commend you for getting out there. But, do you start a Facebook page or a group?? It’s all so overwhelming!! To help you succeed and not lose any friends or family, or even business in the meantime, I’ve created a couple lists for you to consider when choosing a Facebook page or a group!!

Social Media & 5 Things I’ve Learned

I’ve been on Facebook (personally) for about 8 years now. I’ve been on Twitter for three, I’ve been on Instagram for about 2, and I’ve been blogging for two as well. That’s a lot of years of social media. That’s a lot of experiences and that’s a lot of lessons learned! So, here are what I consider my most important lessons that I’ve learned about social media!

1. Not Everything Has to Go On Social Media – To most people this may seem like common knowledge, but we all know the other group who aren’t quite aware of this yet! It doesn’t matter if it’s that adorable naked baby picture of your youngest or the reason why you were arguing with your spouse. Some things just don’t need to be on social media! And, it doesn’t matter whether it’s being posted on Facebook, Instagram, or a blog…somethings just don’t belong. So, before posting really think about who is going to be viewing it and the message that you want to send to them and everyone else who might see it.

Welcome to Friday in Franklin County! I love the place that I call home and the businesses that are here that I’ve decided to share a piece of it with you every Friday!

First up is Christensen Jewelry and owner Russell Gibson! Russ first got started in jewelry making in high school when he took a metals & jewelry class during his sophomore year at Washington High School in Washington, Iowa. The art teacher did jewelry work on the side and was very involved with everything the kids did. During the class they learned the proper techniques to hand make everything, cut and finish the stones, etc. They were required to produce a minimum of 30 designs before they were allowed to create a piece itself. One semester in this class and Russ was hooked.

You know how you feel when you find that one special item that makes your heart soar and give you such a “high”? Well, that’s how I feel about my Power Chef from Tupperware and to be honest, also how I feel about this veggie egg bake I’ve been obsessing over for the last couple weeks that I just had to share it with you!

As someone who gets up early in the morning to work out, I need a hearty breakfast filled with protein and substance!  I recently found these Cheesy Cauliflower Muffins and tried them and loved them so much that I decided to riff the recipe and come up with my own…backing off the cheese and amping up the veggies to make it even more healthy!

5 Tips for the First Years as a Step-Parent

There are articles in magazines and all over the internet for surviving your first trimester of a pregnancy, the first year of your babies life..there are books written about it.  But what about those of us who actually didn’t birth the children in our care?? Becoming a stepmom is the most wonderful, difficult, rewarding, and frustrating thing I’ve ever experienced in my life! I can’t imagine my life without my step-sons in it anymore, but wow were those first couple of years tough!!  Here are my top 5 tips for step-parents to help you survive the first years as a step-parent!

     5.  Stop Comparing Your Family to Other Blended Families – it’s easy to compare yourself to Bob & Mary down the street and how their blended family works, but it’s pointless!  Every blended family is different and that’s because every person is different, every divorce is different, and every marriage is different.  Realize this and be OK with it.  Be confident in the blended family you have and focus on it!  Don’t compare yours to someone else’s because you will always feel let down!
