We’re always looking for fun new foods and dishes to make when camping and these Campfire Cinnamon Bites are just that! And the best party? They are super simple and extra tasty!
Recently on a camping trip of just T and I we decided to experiment. We do this a lot. We typically test things out and then introduce them to the boys if they are a success. I can guarantee that we’ll be introducing these to the boys!
Developing Cinnamon Bites
On this specific camping trip we decided to experiment with breakfast foods and we were specifically on the quest for a donut of sorts. So, we purchased a tube of Pillsbury cinnamon rolls and started testing out different ways of cooking.
First, our fails….
After cooking our bacon in our cast iron pan T decided that he wanted to try frying a cinnamon roll in the bacon grease because, well…everything is better in bacon grease? This was a big time fail! The pan was way too hot and completely burned black both sides of the cinnamon roll and the inside was raw!
Next, T decided to try cutting the cinnamon rolls into quarters and skewering them on our marshmallow roasting forks. Unfortunately, the result was similar to the fried cinnamon roll…the outside were burned while the insides were raw.
Next we moved on to one of our previous tests and one that the boys really enjoy. Into our pie maker (or Tonka Toaster as we call it. I don’t know why, but that’s what we called them when I was young and camping with my family and it’s stuck) we place one cinnamon roll and some butter! Yes, use butter…the real stuff…that’s what gives it the golden crunch that it gets and makes it oh so tasty! Once you evenly cook the cinnamon roll on both sides, remove it from the pie maker, and place a dollop of icing on the top and enjoy!
Last but not least, we hit our jackpot! So, here it is. The super yummy, super easy Campfire Cinnamon Bites
Campfire Cinnamon Bites
Ingredients
- 1 tube refrigerated cinnamon rolls
- canola or vegetable oil
- cinnamon & sugar
Instructions
- Cut each uncooked cinnamon roll into four pieces
- heat the oil in a pan to the point of frying
- fry the pieces of cinnamon roll until golden brown
- remove from the oil, draining excess oil and toss in sugar & cinnamon or drizzle with icing
These bites are not hard, not healthy, but oh so delicious! The edges/outside gets crispy while the inside stay warm and tender cooked! You can drizzle these with the icing from the cinnamon roll tube, toss in cinnamon & sugar, powdered sugar, or just eat plain! And of course, if you’re not a camper, you could easily make these on your stove top! I’m sure they would be just as tasty!!
Look how easy that looks! I love those little cinnamon bites.
Thanks! They are so easy…makes us wonder why we’ve never tried it before!
I love having you as my recipe tester! I’m always worried I’ll screw something up and we won’t have anything to eat! Haha
Haha! We always have way more food than we need so that’s never a problem! You guys will have to give a try next time you camp!
They look amazing! I love finding desserts that can be made on a BBQ!
We would agree!! Our other favorite is funnel cakes! Thanks for stopping by!

Ohh!! I love this! We are slowly learning how to use a dutch oven and doing more cooking outside. This look great and easy to try. I also loved it so much that this was one of my purple ribbon winners from the August Country Fair Blog Party!
