Block 10 @ 1921 City Hall: Where Coffee & History Collide

Where do I spend the most time in Sheffield, Iowa? It’s at work, but the second place I spend the most time at is Block 10 @ 1921 City Hall.  This is a fantastic coffee shop around the corner from my office!  For the first 2.5 years I worked in Sheffield there was no coffee shop, but thanks to Randy and Holly Coffee, we don’t go without any longer!  There’s just something wrong with a gas station cappuccino…or whatever they want to call it!  So, I’m thrilled they are a part of our community!

This “Season”

There are certain times in our yearly calendar in which we don’t travel far from home.  Or, if we do, it’s to track meets, baseball games, basketball games, etc.  There are also times of the year that we don’t travel far due to T’s job!  (Read more about that here!)  So, since we can’t get in the car and drive for hours and hours to explore, I thought it would be a good time to focus on what we have right in our own backyard!  That means we’re starting with one of my favorite places in my backyard, Block 10 at 1921 Sheffield City Hall.

I worked in a coffee shop in college, so I can identify good coffee and bad coffee.  Block 10 produces the best coffee that I’ve tasted since I was making my own.  One of my personal favorites is their iced coffee!  In fact, it’s my “go to” each Friday!

What makes their coffee stand out?  I think it’s because they grind their own beans on site, plus they are constantly trying new products to find the absolutely best for their customers.  If they don’t like it, they won’t serve it!  Only the best for their coffee drinking peeps!

More Than Coffee

I’m so happy that Block 10 is more than just a coffee shop!  They are also a small bakery offering fresh baked sweet breads, muffins, donuts, mini donuts (that are divine), and gigantic cinnamon rolls.

The French Toast Muffin is my favorite at Block 10!

Don’t forget their lunches!  They have a large lunch menu and serve made from scratch sandwiches, wraps, & salads!  I’ve never had anything bad from them, but their Turkey Apple Bacon Pecan Salad is my absolute favorite!  It contains lettuce (obviously) turkey, sliced green apples, bacon, pecans, mozzarella cheese, craisins, & croutons!  I love pairing it with their raspberry vinaigrette!   It’s so full of flavor, fresh, and very filling!!!

While the food and coffee is amazing, the Coffee’s have done an impeccable job restoring this building in downtown Sheffield.  The building served as the city hall until the early 2000’s when it was moved around the corner to a smaller building!  The Coffee’s have not only preserved the history of the building, but also of Sheffield!  It’s fun to walk around and check out all the decor which is historic to Sheffield.

Superior Service

The food is delicious, the coffee is top notch, and the service that the Coffee’s and their staff deliver is the best there is!  They are happy, positive people, but also very real!  Their customers happiness is #1 at the forefront of their business! The trip to Sheffield is definitely worth it for a visit to Block 10!  And while you’re there, can I recommend stopping by Timeless Treasure (antiques), Forever Yours (florist & gift shop), visit in the fall and head to Enchanted Acres (the pumpkin patch), and grab supper at the West Fork Wharf!  (See…there really are many reasons to visit Sheffield!)

    1. They also have a great hot cocoa I’m told! But it would be a great place to snag some box lunches when you’re busy in the field!! I can’t wait to hear what you think!! (Or, come have lunch with me on a rainy day!) 😉

  1. I’m like you, I tend to stay close to home in the spring due to all the other commitments (soccer in our case). I like the chance, though, to play tourist in my hometown.

    1. Absolutely! I’m not quite sure why I didn’t think of it before! Thanks for stopping by!

  2. Oh man I miss little gourmet Iowa coffee shops so bad!!! We moved to Illinois last year from Iowa and they just don’t have good coffee shops here!

    1. Oh, that’s sad!! I love all our great coffee shops! We are so lucky to have them all!

  3. I love local coffee shops that have character! Looks like a great place to spend a few hours drinking coffee and getting some work done.

    1. Character really makes them even better, doesn’t it?! This one definitely has it!! Thanks for stopping by!

  4. I love any business that respects the history of the building that houses it. And even more when it’s a coffee business! Plus, so glad you got coffee in town after 2-1/2 years working without it!
