Is there anything better than a locally owned family business? Yeah, I don’t think so either! This week we’re visiting Tim Christianson from Jaspersen Insurance & Real Estate in Sheffield (very Northern Franklin County). Jaspersen’s has been a fixture on main street Sheffield since January 1, 2000 and in that time they’ve earned the trust and confidence from their customers and grown exponentially! So much so in fact that they are in the process of expanding from the current building into the building next to them to make room to bring more people on board. Now a growing, locally-owned, family business…well, it just doesn’t get any better than that!!
Jaspersen’s was started in 1959 by Tim’s grandfather at his kitchen table. Tim’s dad joined his father-in-law in the business in 1974 and things took off from there with Tim’s brother Tom joining them in 1994. At this time, they only had offices in Belmond & Thornton. In the late 1990’s, Tim & his wife Brigid were looking to move closer to home and the Lockwood Agency on main-street in Sheffield was ready to sell and retire. It worked perfectly and Tim came on board with the family and the Sheffield office opened on January 1, 2000. (They also now have an office in Garner.)
Jaspersen’s slogan is “The little shop with big service” and that is exactly what they provide to their customers. Tim says the number one thing he enjoys about his job is working with the people. That part of his job is also what he likes most about running a business in Sheffield. Tim says he really enjoys knowing his clientele, being able to relate to them, and helping people who are his neighbors & friends. He also likes providing jobs in the area and helping kids (by sponsoring events, benefits, etc). This ideology spills over into why he likes operating a business in Franklin County. His clients are not numbers, he actually gets to know the people he’s working with and how things impact them. And speaking of Franklin County & Northern Iowa. The service that Tim and his team provide to that area is reflected in the fact that they have customer throughout the entire state of Iowa and into Minnesota.
