I’ll admit that I’m a self-proclaimed supporter of small Iowa businesses all the time, but right now its even greater. We are in the middle of a pandemic that has virtually crippled small business owners. So, now I want to support those hard working business owners more than ever! So, I thought I’d share with you the Iowa businesses I’m supporting. Some of them you will be able to support regardless of where you live. Some you’ll be able to find one similar close to you, I’m confident!
Van Veen Chocolates – Pella, Iowa
I got my first taste of Van Veen Chocolates when I visited Pella for a girls getaway. I was instantly hooked. So, when I saw on their Instagram account that I could order online and have it shipped….done & done! Their chocolates are reasonably priced, shipping was super fast, and most importantly, some of the best chocolates I’ve ever had! I decided that if our family wasn’t going to be able to have family over for Easter, we were going to have some AMAZING chocolates! Visit their website to order your own!
Flowers on Fourth – Hampton, Iowa
Flower shops have been forced to close down to walk in business, but that hasn’t stopped Tiffany, owner of Flowers on Fourth in Hampton. She has started offering curbside pick-up or delivery of fresh flowers. A couple weeks ago, I snagged one of her bunches of fresh tulips for $10. After those were gone, I grabbed a fresh cut flower bundles for $10 (she also has a $20 size). I don’t know about you, but on cloudy days when I can’t go anywhere, having fresh flowers sure helps to cheer me up! Not only does it help my mood, but I love knowing I’m helping to support her small business at a tough time! Check with your local florist to see if they are offering similar services!
WW Homestead Dairy – Waukon, Iowa
I love cheese, almost as much as I love chocolate. When I found out that I could have fresh dairy products delivered to my door by WW Homestead Dairy, I was sold. Add into the fact that dairy farmers across the country are struggling with the current climate and I was more than happy to throw some dollars their way! So, I ordered some smokey cheddar cheese curds, sliced fresh cheddar, onion & chive cheddar, and fresh butter! And they do ship all over, so make sure to check out their website!
Vintage Pearl Apparel – Hamlin, Iowa
Kelsi & her adorable clothing boutique don’t have a storefront, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t check her boutique out. Typically, Vintage Pearl Apparel sells adorable clothing options online and at festivals and vendor shows, but obviously those types of events are on hold right now! From clearance winter goodies to spring & summer fresh styles, she has a little bit of everything. She also offers for all ladies sizes, which is a huge plus. Free shipping on all orders right now is the icing on the cake, so go give her site a browse!
Local Restaurants
Some of our most struggling Iowa businesses right now are restaurants! Supporting local restaurants is really easy! I’m so sick of cooking meals every night (with nowhere to go), so every once in awhile it’s fun to support a local restaurant with take-out! During this pandemic, we’ve gotten food to go from the West Fork Wharf, pizza from Casey’s, and yummy Mexican food from Restaurant La Amigita. Pick one or two restaurants and decide to support them by doing take-out or delivery!
Support Small Iowa Businesses
Times are tough right now with people quarantined to their homes, but you can support others by buying a few small goodies from Iowa businesses. If we stick together during this time, we will all get through it! Stay healthy my friends!
What an endearing post! Thank you for sharing your helpful insight!
I love my small businesses! Thanks for stopping by!
Fabulous idea Katy. We need to focus on helping our local communities. I have been purchasing flowers. It helps me so much emotionally and helps the economy.
Yes! Flowers seem to be the simplest right now and help everyone! We’ve all got to stick together during this time!! 💗
I love this real world example of how to support local business! We offer curbside pickup of our wine at Nearwood Winery & Vineyards. We are having a special during this closure time by donating 50% of sales to the local hospital. We haven’t had any response until one couple called me and purchased a case! They didn’t even live in our community. I felt so grateful, it really helped renew my hope.
That’s an awesome way to give back and move some product! Good luck with your efforts!
