I’ve been itching for a roadtrip in a big way! However, our schedules are so crazy this spring, we don’t have much time! But, I did recently grab my mom and head to Ackley, IA for a morning of fun! So, where do the locals go?! Check it out!
Beans On Butler
What morning road-trip can start without coffee?! Ours certainly cannot! When visiting Ackley, IA, you must grab your coffee from Beans on Butler. Do not be fooled by the exterior of this java shop! Beans on Butler is located adjacent to the community’s care center. Regardless, this coffee shop is open to the public and you’d never guess you were inside a care facility!
Beans on Butler has a drink menu that is chalked full of specialty drinks and options for breakfast. You can select from light items like muffins, cookies, etc or choose a hot breakfast item like quiche or breakfast sandwiches. My mom selected a hot butterscotch caramel latte and a sausage biscuit! I opted for an iced Apple Tart Latte and a bacon sandwich. All of our options were tasty and brought out to us in a very short time!
Beans on Butler has been decorated so tastefully! There are several different types of seating available. You can also have a seat at the piano and knock out a few tunes! It’s definitely a great spot in Ackley to meet up with some friends for a coffee or to grab one on your way through town!
PS – If you’re not a coffee drinker, they have an amazing tea corner!
King’s Hometown Furniture
Once you’ve snagged your coffee, head to the main street area to King’s Hometown Furniture! Even if you’re not in the market for new furniture, this locally owned shop needs to be a stop! Not only do they offer a variety of high quality furniture, but also fantastic home decor! I fell in love with several items and even snagged a cute bucket stand on sale! Stay tuned to what I might do with it.
Family Traditions Meat Co.
Formerly known as Triple T Meats, Family Traditions Meat Co is a locally owned meat processor and caterer! Step inside their Ackley store and you can purchase a large variety of processed meats (flavors of brats and beef sticks I’ve never heard of) along with deli items like pasta salad, etc. They also have small selection of decor and household items, so you can pick up several things to make up a basket as a housewarming or hostess gift. My mom’s personal favorite is the dried beef!
Yarrow Avenue Collection
The next stop (and our final) is Yarrow Avenue Collections. This home decor shop isn’t located within the city limits, but it is totally worth the short drive (and gravel roads) to take it in. The moment you step in to Yarrow Ave, you are transported into a place that creates calm and happy within! Owner Andrea Benning has worked hard to create a shop that offers high end and affordable home decor and kitchen pieces! It is evident that she pays close attention to current trends and anticipating those coming down the pipe.
Everytime I visit Yarrow Ave, I fall in love with several pieces. Andrea is also fantastic job at offering recommendations or helping customers fill a trouble spot in your home! On my most recent visit, I picked up some fresh stems to brighten up and freshen up a large vase in my home. I could easily fill my house with pieces from Yarrow Ave.

What a great road trip. I need to check out a couple of these places! Be sure to go back in the summer for my kids’ favorite Sky Kone, as well as the Hardin County Freedom Rock!
Oh yes!!! I have yet to have the elusive sky kone! I for sure need one!
From a young age of 4, I grew up in Ackley,IA, graduated at the small High School. My father was the manager of the MARSHALL CANNING CO for many years & then the Ackley took it over. Always proud that it was a wonderful place to grow with my sister & 3 brothers. So pleased this small town is being recognized!
Thank You!

How neat! Thanks for sharing that with me! The community has some fantastic locally owned shops! In fact, I think I need to get back soon and add the nursery to my list! Thanks for stopping by!
I haven’t heard of Ackley before! These are great finds and I had fun learning about them on your Instagram, too. Those coffee shop drink flavors sound amazing.
Their specialty drinks were like none I’d ever heard of before. Ackley is just 30 minutes south of Hampton.
Looks like fun!
It was a great girls adventure!!
