We’ve been traveling to Bellevue, Iowa for 2 years now. We visit this quaint town, located along the Mississippi River, a couple times a year and love our visit every time. While staying in Bellevue there are several choices of places to stay including a resort, campgrounds, tiny home rentals, and Air B&B’s, etc. However, if you want a place with lots of space, an amazing location, and high-end finishes, you need to book a stay at the Bakery Suite above Field of Chocolate Dreams.
Field of Chocolate Dreams
Field of Chocolate Dreams began making handmade chocolates in 1982, but opened their shop on main street in Bellevue in 2022. They offer a wide selection of chocolates like Champagne Truffles+-, Turtles, jumbo peanut butter cups, and delicious butter toffee. Then, they add fresh baked goods like cookies, cinnamon rolls, gluten-less cheesecake, and more! Plus, they recently added a small selection of coffee drinks, frozen hot chocolate, and lunches. Finally, they offer locally sourced items like jams, lemon curd, and wine. Macarons are also in their bakery case every day. They are not baked in store, but they are still some of the best I’ve ever had. It’s a definite stop every time we are in Bellevue.
The Bakery Suite
Located in the same historic building as Field of Chocolate Dreams is the Bakery Suite. It received its name from it’s location and the fact that you might get a whiff of fresh baked goods wafting up the stairs.
Bedrooms & Bathrooms
The suite is incredibly spacious and boasts 3 bedrooms. There are 2 rooms with king size beds and 1 with a queen size bed. Each room is large and well appointed with the most comfortable mattresses, a large pillow selection, and some of the best sheets that I’ve ever slept on. Plus you’ll find the coziest robes hanging in each closet.
The bathrooms are very well done. One features a beautiful walk-in shower while the other features a tub/shower combo and the tub is jetted! Both bathrooms are beautifully decorated with tile, vanities, and all the towels you’ll need. They also each have a blow-dryer, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Did I mention the towels are so amazing that I made a point to see what brand they are?!
Other Features
In addition to the bedrooms and bathrooms, the suite features a very large and spacious dining room & kitchen. It also features a small sitting area and balcony that overlooks the main street area and Mississippi River. The kitchen is a full kitchen with fridge, stove & oven, sink, dishwasher, and the basic equipment you may need to cook (dishes, pots, pans, & utensils). It also offers a Keurig coffee maker, but I personally recommend heading down to the Chocolate shop for a coffee drink or the local coffee shop.
One other great feature of the suite is the screened in porch off the back. It features a couple patio chairs and a hot tub. Please note that you do have to pass through one of the bedrooms to get to this porch, but the features are worth it.
Things to Keep in Mind
The Bakery Suite is a fantastic place to stay in Bellevue, but we do think you need to keep a few things in mind.
- You do have to traverse a flight of stairs and through a couple doors to get to the Suite. The Suite is not handicap accessible, but the stairways do provide handrails, etc.
- Parking is only available on a side street or main street. So, you will have to walk about a half-block at the least to get from the back door to your car.
- There are TV’s in each of the bedrooms, but not in the sitting room.
- There is WiFi available throughout the suite.
- Both heat and air conditioning are in the suite with one bedroom having their own mini-split.
