A Classic, Easy,& Simple Banana Bread or Muffins

It’s fall and that means I start baking again!  First on my list of things to bake is always this easy banana bread!  My boys LOVE banana bread and they can easily clear a loaf in less than 12 hours!  But since they are 12 and 16, that’s not an uncommon event!

November is right around the corner and that means we’re officially done with football and cross country seasons!  This means that we’re currently in “vacation” mode, which means no games.  From the last football game to the first basketball game, 38 days!  That’s it, but I’m enjoying the down time with my three guys this fall!

Be Healthy, Not Skinny

Body image, healthy, skinny..our society is so confusing, right? Models and celebrities are show as having the “perfect body” which is usually very slender and fit. But, then we see amazing videos like this:

What are we, as women, to think?  We need to be skinny.  Just be who we are.  We need to work out.  We need to eat healthy.  We need to cut sugar, carbs, and fat out of our diet.  We need to not care what we look like.  So, what is the real story?  Where is the truth in all this?  What are we really supposed to be and believe?

Banana Pancakes with Blueberry Sauce

Banana Pancakes with Blueberry Sauce

I’ve really been working hard to clean up my eating again (summer through me off completely) and these Banana Pancakes with Blueberry Sauce have helped curb my carb addiction and sweet-tooth!  Breakfast is probably the hardest meal for me to eat “clean” and always has been!  I love carbs: I love cereal, muffins, hash browns…anything in the carb family, sign me up for them!  So, when I’m attempting to eat clean and whole, it’s incredibly difficult to find suitable foods!

I’ve done lots of eggs, baked oatmeal, but I’m not a smoothie person and usually eat breakfast on the go or at the office so I need something that can either be cooked in the microwave or warmed-up!  I’ve tried several homemade pancake recipes: whole wheat, protein, cottage cheese..you name it, I’ve tried it!  One of the major problems with a lot of healthy pancake recipes is that they dry out if they aren’t eaten right after they are cooked.  So, reheating them tends to take the luster out of them.

Friday in Franklin County: Carol’s Flowerbox

When my husband and I got married five years ago, there was no question where our flowers would come from…it would be from Carol’s Flower Box in Hampton!  Owner Carol Schnabel has been in business since purchasing the business from the previous owner in the summer of 2010.  Since then, she’s made it her own and even moved locations.

Gusto Pizza, Des Moines: Delicious & Family Friendly

Have you been to Gusto Pizza in Des Moines? If you haven’t, you need to! We paired our trip to Gusto with an iCubs baseball game.  The games are such good family fun, if you’ve never been. We’ve been to several now and each time we’ve gone, we’ve done a tailgate meal because well…it’s a baseball game! This time, however, we decided to grab supper at a restaurant near the field instead.
