Last week my husband suggested that we go camping again. I was so torn. It was such an emotional week for me: closing up the store I used to work in, starting a new job, 2 football games, etc. I just couldn’t get excited about camping this time around. I wanted to stay HOME! It seems like the past month or so, we’ve had something every single weekend between camping, the state fair, football games, birthday parties, work, etc. Something has occupied every weekend! We didn’t have anything this past Friday or Saturday, which was a surprise, but one that I was looking forward to. There was mounds of laundry that needed to be done, a house that needed to be cleaned and picked up, sheets on beds that needed to be changed, a lawn that needed to be mowed…well, I think you get the idea! To be quite honest (and no one tell T this), but I was looking forward to staying home and doing it all!!!
As a newer “mom” to boys, I sometimes find myself feeling like a crazy person running around or feeling overwhelmed by the amount of laundry that 2 boys can create or frustrated because I feel like no one is listening.
My life has been pretty crazy lately with changes. The other night I had prepped a roast, potatoes, carrots, and onions in the crock pot. I ran home from finishing up one of the last days at my current job
This past Friday, the North Iowa bloggers and I got the opportunity to get a sneak peek at Enchanted Acres , in Sheffield, Iowa, before their big opening of the season! What a treat that was! Enchanted Acres is a great
The weather is turning more like fall and it’s cooling off! This time of year I always think of the yummy foods that I’ve “neglected” or opted not to eat all summer. Soups, stews, roasts, cream based casseroles…all those types of things. One of our favorites throughout the fall and winter is Taco Soup and it’s so easy and so yummy! It can be made up and put in the crock pot on low for a half day or all day. Or, you can mix it up and eat it shortly after! The greatest thing for us (other than it being super yummy)is that it makes a big batch and freezes well, so we can have it for lunches later! I hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

Continue “Taco Soup”The SS10 spent the weekend with my mom and step-dad while we took SS14 and his girlfriend to the Iowa State football game. Apparently the 10 year old has a much better time at grandma and grandpa’s house because he didn’t want to come home with us last night. Of course grandma and grandpa didn’t argue, so he stayed! (One of the things I love best about where our boys are being raised is their proximity to my parents who love them as their own and my mom and step-dad just live about 10 blocks from us, so it’s very convenient.) I live in a world where my house in full of boys! Husbands, step-sons, friends…all boys! I live in a world of the colors blue, red, black, and gray! I don’t buy white clothes for my two step-sons…that’s asking for some
One of the greatest “hidden treasures” of Iowa is the Amana Colonies! Whether you’re looking for a girlfriends getaway or a romantic weekend away, you’ll find a great time here! Here is your guide to visiting.
If you’re a camper, we recommend Amana RV Park & Event Center in Amana, Iowa! Amana is the largest colony of the Amana Colonies and where most of the action is, so it’s the perfect location to stay! When we visited, we easily made our reservation online! Upon our arrival, the employees provided us with tourist guides and coupon books, which is a great perk!
It’s easy to find your camping spot as there are members of the staff that lead you directly there. The staff will also help you get lined up correctly on our pad! Because of their facilities, they are able to host large events along with family reunions, etc!
If you are a runner or are committed to any sort of physical activity that you do every day, you completely understand my title. This morning while I was out for my run, it was a struggle! Sadly it was a struggle from the first step! Let me set the scene for you! It was 73 degrees with 71 dew point and 98% humidity. If you do any sort of physical activity outside, you know what this means…misery! I love running in the early mornings as I find the air to be “cleaner” or “uninterrupted” and usually much more tolerable to breathe (also, if I don’t do it first thing in the morning, it doesn’t get done). This morning did not support my reason to run in the wee hours of the day! UGH! It was awful out there from the first step and it didn’t get better over time!
