Garlic Roasted Broccoli

I can eat broccoli and roasted is where healthy eating is at!  I enjoy a large variety of vegetables in almost anyway shape or form.  I’m also constantly looking for new ways to enjoy them so I will eat them more!  While the majority of my posts revolving around #TastyTuesday are family meal centered, I like to throw a healthy recipe in every now and then! The other day I made this and it was so delicious that I knew I had to share it with you all!

Dear Amy…

3 days ago I lost someone new to my life, but she had managed to weave her way into my life on a level that I hadn’t quite understood until now and now there”s a big hole in my days and my life.

Dear Amy,

I can’t believe you’re gone.  In fact, it doesn’t feel real except that I miss your Tweets, your Instagrams, and your Facebook posts.  I miss the photos of Patches and Spenser and the view from your home.  I miss a new selfie or seeing what you’ve been up to.  I miss you “favoriting” a Tweet or Instagram that I post.  I miss you commenting on my blog posts.

Dealing With It…Random Thoughts

On a day such as this a lot of thoughts go through my head and while the following post doesn’t have a strong theme or story, it is what is in my head and my heart today.

9AM – I’m supposed to be working today.  I mean I’m at work and trying to be productive, but I’m not being very successful at it. My heart hurts, my heal is full of thoughts and feels like it’s full of cotton balls. My eyes actually hurt just looking at the computer screen. Yesterday, the #NorthIowaBloggers and many others lost a good friend. Amy of Modern Rural Living epitomized positivity, happiness, and living life to the fullest.  Amy’s life was cut short as the result of a tragic car accident yesterday.  I don’t even know where to go with this post after writing that.  My fingers seem frozen over the keyboard.  As hard as I try to focus, it isn’t happening or at least not coming easy.  As I told fellow #NorthIowaBlogger, Beth Ann, this morning…being an adult sucks sometimes.  Dealing with adult issues and then having to do the “adult thing”, which for me is coming to work this morning when all I really want to do is curl up in my jammies and be sad and cry and sleep.

Lessons In Parenting!

In our house, it’s 2 boys, 2 parents and we lead one life (oh, we must not forget Ms. Nike our beloved pup). Yes, they also have a life with their mom at her house, but we lead one pretty cool life in our house. I wouldn’t say that I’m a professional parent and I always have learning to do, but I feel pretty good about the strides that I’ve come in the last 5 years! Yes, I’ve officially been in the boys’ life for over 5 years now! The time has gone so fast!  Every day I’m amazed at how fast they are growing and maturing.

Share Your World 2015, Week 7

Once again Cee of Cee’s Photography has provided another great week of questions. So, without anymore pomp….here we go…

Is the paper money in your possession right now organized sequentially according to denomination and with the bills right side up and facing the same way? Yes, absolutely!  Always sequentially with the largest (as few as there are in my wallet) and all face up.  Likewise, my cash box at work is all organized by denomination as well as all face up and facing the left!  (This goes back to my days of working at Fareway in high school and counting down cash drawers at the end of the night.  That was how they required all drawers to be counted down and put away.  I couldn’t stand counting down a drawer that was all helter skelter!)

Dispelling Some Blended Family Myths

I’m very excited and honored to have a guest post today by The Blended Family Mom!  As a fellow step-mom she understands some of the hard parts of being wife #2 and a step-mom, but also focuses on the positives and making the situation better instead of focusing on the negative and the drama! I love this post and even if you aren’t a part of a blended family, I believe that every married person and parent can find a couple of takeaways from it!  Enjoy!

——————————————————————————————————————————————-

I finally met the man of my dreams … this new marriage will be wonderful!
His kids are great … it won’t be a problem to step in and be a step parent!!
Parenting stepchildren is no different from parenting my own kids.

Did you ever make any of these statements, or think any of these thoughts? Did you find them to be totally true in your new blended family?  When I met my husband, Dan, he was pretty much everything that I wanted in a man and in my next marriage. Yes, I am an open and affectionate woman – any kid would love me; after all, I was a first-grade teacher! And parenting another man’s children … no problem!
