My friend, Beth Ann of It’s Just Life challenged me to the Five Photos: Five Stories challenge. If you’ve missed any, that’s ok! Just click the links to the right! Yeah, right over there! —>
I got the privilege of growing up on a farm, learning the “way” of the farmer and with that learning a lot about the process over time and where we came from along with the hard work ethic and the harsh reality (or at least harsh when I was 10) that we didn’t need video games (even though I BEGGED my parents for a Nintendo when they first were launched) because we had the outside and “working on the farm!”
I’m happy that the boys get to experience some of this when they visit my dad and step-mom on their farm. Do they get the full affect without living there? No. But, they’ve helped split wood, feed the animals, throw hay bales, drive the tractor, collect eggs, make apple cider, work in the garden, and shell corn for the animals! They’ve gotten a taste of the hard work that is put into having a farm and animals and have learned valuable lessons! For that, I am grateful!
This picture made me smile because I remember shelling corn at my grandparents’ farm as well. Grandpa was concerned that we were shelling so much and Grandma calmly reminded him that that was less for him to do later!
LOL! That sounds like something similar to when we visit the farm! The boys would shell (and feed) all the corn that Grizzly Bear has if we let them. Sometimes we have to reign them in!
I don’t have these memories at all. I was the kid playing Nintendo inside. I have loved learning more about farming from all of you!
I love helping to educate as well as watch you “city folk” in awe and wonder! 😉 Isn’t it great that we all come from such diverse backgrounds and can expose each other to different things?
