Garden Update – June 3rd, 2019

If you’ve followed me for several years, you know by now we’re usually on our 2nd or 3rd Garden Update of the season! Please don’t be a hater and certainly don’t think that I’ve given up gardening. We can blame a very cold and wet spring combined with lots of track and graduation events. Spring got away from me and I was very late getting anything planted, but don’t worry, we’re finally making progress…kinda! πŸ™‚

Vegetable & Fruit Garden

Last year, T started a strawberry bed for me. It produced a small amount that was very manageable. Since then he’s added more plants and fertilized, etc. I’ve decided he’s determined to see how many strawberries I really can put away! The bed is LOADED with berries! If we can keep the bird out of it, I’ll have strawberries coming out my ears!

And, it’s a good thing we have the strawberry bed because that is virtually it in our vegetable and fruit garden. Our vegetable garden is very low and STILL very wet! We actually thought it had dried out enough yesterday, so T tilled it and it’s wet and clumpy! UGH! The good news is that he is making headway in getting my asparagus patch going! I have about 5 stalks of asparagus that I’m letting go to see this year in order to expand and grow our patch!

The Wild Bed

We had tulips in our wild bed earlier this spring and I shared them on my Facebook and Instagram page, so if you didn’t see them there, make sure to go back and look because I had some beautiful ones! The other flowers are slowly starting to bloom and the daisy’s are taking off now!

The Lilly Bed

My lillies are coming back very well! Last spring I had actually had T dig up a rose bush that was clearly dead, I planted a brand new lily there. And this year?! I have a lily and rose bush hybrid apparently! Go figure that after an entire year of not being there, that rose bush decided to grow back! We’ll see if I get blooms from it or not! In the meantime, my miniature iris’ are blooming and GORGEOUS!

My other lily’s are finally started to get some buds on them, albeit very small ones!

Other Flower Gardens

Even my planters and window boxes are behind this year thanks to all the rain as well as a very busy May. I went with a variation of impatiens in my front step planter! They got hit by a late May cold snap, but are slowly coming back!

I also planted impatiens in my window boxes this year! I’m trying a whole new “look” and can’t wait for them to fill in!

The cement boot got brightly colored petunias which are also planted in the beds surrounding our flag pole!

Mr. Bear got a brightly colored geranium for this year! I love the two tone pink look!

Finally, I had to buy new wild grasses for my front landscaped beds and added some bright colors this year!

Conclusion

Needless to say, we are way behind in our gardens this year thanks to the weather, but things are slowly coming! Stay tuned for several updates throughout the summer! How is your garden growing?!
