Your age. It doesn’t matter whether it’s 20 or 65. It’s just a number. It has no reflection on what kind of person you are. It doesn’t tell anyone what kind of physical shape you are in. It doesn’t dictate what you are or are not able of doing. It’s just a number.
The numbers in your bank account. It doesn’t matter whether it’s 0 or 100,000. It’s just a number. It doesn’t make you better than, worse than, superior to, or inferior to anyone else! It doesn’t mean you don’t work hard. It doesn’t mean you work harder than someone else. It’s just a number.
The number on the tag on your pants. It doesn’t matter if it’s 0 or 24. It doesn’t define who you are. It doesn’t mean you are inferior to someone. It doesn’t mean you don’t work as hard as the person next to you. It doesn’t mean that you are going to be more or less successful. It doesn’t mean you are going to live longer or shorter. It’s just a number.
Whether it’s about how old we are and thinking we’re “old” or if we’re concerned about the size of our pants, we focus a lot on numbers. Recently, I purchased a new pair of pants from The Orange Possum and they are a size 11! Yup, a size 11! At first, I freaked out. I’m constantly “recovering” from anorexia and the fact that I was buying a pair of pants with the number 11 in the size for the first time since high school scared the crap out of me! All my other pants are between a 3 and and 8! And then I put them on! Do you know what happened? Not only are the most comfortable pair of pants I’ve worn in a very long time, they made me FEEL fantastic! (They are so good, I went back and bought another pair in another color!)
That’s when it hit me that I need to not focus on numbers. We need to focus on we feel in life and not let numbers dictate! I’m 35. I don’t care who knows it, I’m not ashamed of it and honestly I don’t feel it. I saw someone on Facebook the other comment about how she’s freaked out about turning 30! My best parts of my life have been lived since I turned 30 and not because of the number, but because of the man I married, the step-sons I have been blessed with, etc. (I wrote another post about this a couple years ago…check it out HERE!)
So, just remember..your age, your weight, your bank account, the size on your pants…they are all just numbers! Don’t let them define you!
Clinton ands Stacy would be proud of you! But seriously, I am too!
Thank you!! You know how much of a step it is for me to be ok with it!!
You nailed it! Honestly I have never been overly concerned about my advanced age of 56 but as my age advances so does my pants size which I admit bothers me a bit. I need to let that go and just try to be healthy, right??? Love ya!
It’s hard, but we all do! Love you too!
