Recently, I was able to meet up with a couple of my friends who also happen to be North Iowa Bloggers for a quick lunch! I’m always up for trying something new and I had heard great things about the State Street Deli in Mason City, so we gave it a try!
The first thing I noticed when I arrived is that the Deli is located in the gorgeous and historic Brick & Tile Building near downtown Mason City! Upon opening the door, you are engulfed in the delicious scents produced by this shop! High-top tables and regular tables are abundant and the area is open and airy! The decor is funky and historic all at the same time. The open deli case is inviting and makes your mouth water.
While the menu is not a huge one, it does have a good variety of both your “basic” deli sandwiches and ones that are a bit more unconventional and creative. I settled on the hot roast beef since it was a cold day and I wanted to be warmed up! Each sandwich comes with your choice of side which includes things like pea salad, potato salad, and pasta salad. And, we all know that it wouldn’t be a deli sandwich if it didn’t’ come with a pickle spear!
We ordered and were given numbers and when all three of our orders were finished they were delivered promptly to our table and we dug in! My sandwich was large (bursting actually) with thinly sliced seasoned roast beef in a delicious (and what I only assume) fresh baked roll!! I had passed on a side since there wasn’t one that fit into my #21DayFix eating right now, but they all looked delicious. And that dill pickle spear…wonderful! Just the right balance of dill, garlic, and a crunch. My sandwich was also served with a small cup of hot au jus, but the meat was so juicy, tender, and full of flavor that I didn’t use a whole lot of it!!
I’ve already recommended State Street Deli to others and I can’t wait until I revisit!! Of course the company of my dear friends didn’t hurt anything either! 😉
You can find State Street Deli on the Web and Facebook!!
I am addicted to the Michigan… my favorite sandwich there!
That’s what Mary & Donna had and both raved about it! I even got to sneak a bite of Mary’s and I’ll be going for that next time!!
They have such great sandwiches!!!
They really do!!
Great spot! Love that you were able to experience it with NIB friends 🙂
Thanks! I had never been, so it was a fun adventure.
It was so great seeing you for lunch and I *love* the Michigan! I also love that they have Gluten Free wraps!!
It was so great seeing you too. I’m going with the Michigan next time and maybe the Gluten Free wrap too!
Ive never been there but have always wanted to try it! French dip (or hot roast beef) is my fav so ill keeping this in mind the next time I drive by! 🙂
It was excellent and it was definitely worth the stop!
If you liked our Roast Beef try our LaSalle Street. Same roll, same roast beef, but with cheese & fire roasted veggies (red pepper, green peppers, & onions). Hope to see you all soon!!
Great! Thanks for the recommendation!
