If you are a runner or are committed to any sort of physical activity that you do every day, you completely understand my title. This morning while I was out for my run, it was a struggle! Sadly it was a struggle from the first step! Let me set the scene for you! It was 73 degrees with 71 dew point and 98% humidity. If you do any sort of physical activity outside, you know what this means…misery! I love running in the early mornings as I find the air to be “cleaner” or “uninterrupted” and usually much more tolerable to breathe (also, if I don’t do it first thing in the morning, it doesn’t get done). This morning did not support my reason to run in the wee hours of the day! UGH! It was awful out there from the first step and it didn’t get better over time!
For some reason my body felt old, tired and sore this morning. With every step a muscle ached or a joint argued with me (specifically my hip region this morning). It was hard to breathe. I wanted to give up! I wanted to walk the whole way and at one point early on in the run, I contemplated turning around and going home and sitting in my air conditioned house watching the RHOC Reunion show! (Seriously, that was my thought…I wish I could say that it wasn’t, but it’s my weakness!) I kept plugging along, step after step, mile after mile, gasp for air after gasp for air! I made it my usual 3.4 miles this morning and yes, it was about 45 seconds (pace) slower than normal, but I didn’t give up!
Isn’t that how life is? Some days we just are tired, exhausted (both physically and emotionally), our psyche is defeated, but we can’t give up and I hope that we don’t! Just because I’m on the verge of falling asleep at my computer right now, doesn’t mean I give up on the day and go back to bed (oh goodness, that sounds so good!) Some months can be that way. I’m way overwhelmed right now with boys schedules, extra activities that we’ve committed to, switching jobs next week, etc. I can tell that it’s all beginning to take a toll on my “self”, but I just keep putting one foot in front of the other and plugging along (and yes, I might be on the verge of tears at this very moment because I’m stressed)! Perhaps if we all looked at exercise like life we would all be a healthier nation? Life isn’t easy and neither is running, but I choose to keep putting one foot in front of the other and overcome the struggle! I hope, if you are struggling with something right now, physically or emotionally, that you will join me in overcoming the struggle! Brighter days are ahead…and easier runs (I hope!)
I hope, too! The struggle of everyday life sometimes can be enough for me to want to bury myself in my covers, but you are absolutely right…though I may feel tired and like giving up, I can’t give up!! I will join you in overcoming this struggle! Woo Hoo to brighter days!!
Awesome! I need as many people with me! Lean on me! We will help each other!
