Cozumel in Pictures: A Family Vacation

Cozumel

We recently returned from spending 5 days on Cozumel, Mexico as a family! It was our Christmas gift to the boys and was our last big hurrah for a family vacation! Almost 3 years had passed since we had a family vacation as the 4 of us and we know that as the boys continue to grow and mature, it just isn’t going to happen. So, we decided to go out with a big bang.

We ended up falling into Cozumel by a series of circumstance and were very hesitant, but now that we’ve been and returned…what an amazing experience it was! Not only did we enjoy the beautiful weather, sunshine, beach, and ocean. We learned a lot about the Mexicans, their lives, and how much they thrive off tourism.

Touring with Cozumel Tour Excursions

We planned a private Jeep tour with Cozumel Tour Excursions for our first full day on the island. We wanted to use it as a way to see the island and determine what we wanted to spend more time doing the following days.

What ended up happening was that we were placed with the best tour guide, Jerry! He was so amazing at his job. He was very knowledgeable, funny, personable, humble, and took us some to great spots. Jerry also took the time to listen to what was important to us and adjusted as much as possible. We enjoyed our tour so much that we ended up booking a second day with him!

We can’t imagine having spent our time in Cozumel any other way! If you are ever headed to Cozumel, we highly recommend booking a tour with Jerry!

Pictures of Cozumel

We saw so many amazing things, that I just decided to share some pictures with very brief explanations. I hope you enjoy them!

The view from our resort room was nothing to complain about! We were greeted by palm trees and blue waters!

During one of our Jeep tours we learned about the history of Mayans in Cozumel and what they are doing to preserve their culture and traditions.

El Mirador is a rocky shore on the East side of the island. It provides for gorgeous views!

We saw several iguanas inside Punta Sur Ecological Park. We saw this one, a bright green one, and even an orange one, plus one with a striped tail!

The view of the “Wild Side” or what the locals call the East side of the island from the Celarain Lighthouse was pretty amazing!

Views from El Cozumeleno Beach Resort

The view looking north from our resort, El Cozumelno Beach Resort. It was quite windy while we were there, which limited our ocean time, but we still enjoyed beach walking and did get in a little snorkeling time on the southern tip of Cozumel in Punta Sur.

The clocktower in Parque Benito Juarez in San Miguel de Cozumel. It is part of a large park area that has several different features. It also borders the historic yellow flea market where we did some shopping. This park is also home to the famous isla Cozumel sign where so many people (including us) have their picture taken.

2 different days we spent time on the East side of the island. Due to the way the weather was when we were there, it was a bit calmer on the Atlantic side of the island. It gave us beautiful sand to walk on and turquoise waters to enjoy! The East side is not near as developed as the Western side. There are a few beach clubs and restaurants, but no resorts which gives tourists and locals lots of uninterrupted coast.

The view from our rooms balcony was pretty great! I enjoyed this view each evening as the sun went down!

Visit Cozumel

Cozumel ended up being a fantastic destination for our family. With lots to do both on and off the resort we weren’t bored. It is also a very safe destination. If you’re looking to plan a trip, we highly recommend Cozumel. You can’t go wrong with warm weather, sand, and ocean.
