Friday in Franklin County: Sheffield

I might be a little biased (I work there), but the town of Sheffield located in northern Franklin County is a pretty great little community! They have a lot going for themselves and yet are working hard to battle the typical small town community demise.  Their efforts vary and come from the heart, which is why I decided to feature the entire town today in “Friday in Franklin County”!

This quaint town is located on the northern border of Franklin County and is population 1172 (at the last census).  The current mayor in office is the youngest Mayor in the history of the town and they are home to one of the busiest Casey’s General Stores in the state.

What makes Sheffield so great?  The have a promising manufacturing industry including being home to Sukup Manufacturing and a redi-mix cement plant is beginning construction this summer.  They are also home to several businesses including those who are participating in “Spend Saturday in Sheffield” tomorrow, April 30th.  The City of Sheffield is inviting everyone to come spend all day Saturday (or part of it if that fits your schedule better) in Sheffield.  Timeless Treasure (antique store) is part of the North Iowa Junk & Treasure Crawl.  While you’re in town, you can also enjoy their city-wide garage sales and sidewalk sales from Forever Yours Flowers & Gifts.  If you’re hungry for lunch and like to help a good cause, make sure to stop on main street (empty lot) and grab a pork burger lunch from the West Fork Girl Scouts who are raising money for their trip to Savannah this summer!  They will also have plants for sale as well!  Stick your head in the Sheffield Pharmacy & Gifts to catch some great sales and make sure to stop by the Spring Vendor Expo happening on main street as well with more than 20 in-home business vendors including Norwex, Tupperware, 31, Keehn Kreations, Kanga Crafts, Young Living Oils, and so much more!

Sheffield has a great school district and awesome people which are two more reasons that make it a great asset to Franklin County and the entire North Iowa area.  I encourage you to Spend Saturday in Sheffield tomorrow, April 30th, and check out what makes Sheffield so special!
