Count the Days After Your Wedding

Count the Days After Your Wedding

The holidays have recently passed and that means a lot of engagements happened and the impending wedding! Now, those young, excited, newly engaged women are counting down the days until they say “I Do!”  They are counting down the days until they get to wear a beautiful dress and marry their “dream man!”

I understand the excitement surrounding a wedding, I really do, but I’m here to tell you young, newly engaged women, don’t count down the days until your wedding. Count the days after your wedding! That’s when life really begins!

The Pressure

Our society has put such pressure on brides everywhere to have the perfect day, more special than anyone elses, more unique, more perfect.  What if we put the pressure on bride & grooms to have a marriage like that?  If we, society, put as much effort into marriages as we do into the wedding itself, maybe our divorce rate would be less?

Apple Cinnamon Baked Oatmeal – A Healthy Breakfast!

Apple Cinnamon Baked Oatmeal – A Healthy Breakfast!

Since starting on the #21DayFix a little over 21 days ago (read my thoughts about it HERE), I’m making a valiant effort to refine the way I eat all together (not just when I’m on the “Fix”). One of the meals that is hardest for me to eat “whole” or “clean” is breakfast!  So, the other day when I found this baked oatmeal recipe by SkinnyTaste, I was ecstatic to give it a try and after consulting with Coach Shannon, I got confirmation that this was an acceptable food and I set off to bake it.  Despite being delightfully yummy and filling on a cold day, it got my wheels turning to other combinations that I could try! (Stay tuned because there WILL be more coming).

21 Day Fix Approved Foods

21 Day Fix Approved Foods

I’m in the final week of my first 21 Day Fix and while I haven’t followed it to a T (due to family Christmas dinners), I’ve followed it exactly every other day of the week that those dinners don’t happen on and I’ve had fun “playing” with my food.  I found 3 21 Day Fix approved variations on foods that I thought were so great, I wanted to share them with you!  Even if you aren’t on the 21 Day Fix diet, these are great “whole foods” to feed your body and just plain delicious!!  Here are my 3 favorite current dishes!

Is the “21 Day Fix” Really a Fix?

For the past 15 or so days I’ve been working on feeding my body the good stuff! I’ve always been known to love food and not be able to turn down a cookie, ice cream, or brownie, but in the last couple months I hadn’t been feeling “well”. I use “well” because I wasn’t sick and I wasn’t unhealthy, but I wasn’t feeling the best that I knew I could. Enter my friend Shannon (from Shannon Ambroson Wellness) and the 21 Day Fix! At first the 21 Day Fix scared the bageebers out of me because I thought, “I can’t live on spinach”. Well, it turns out I don’t have to! It also turns out that the 21 Day Fix isn’t about not eating, it’s about eating the good stuff! Good stuff being whole, unprocessed foods! And, that’s what I’ve done!

Random Monday Thoughts, 12/14/2015

It’s Monday again! During the holidays the weekends seem to go faster & faster, right? I guess it’s par for the course! Today, since it’s the holidays I thought I’d focus on something Christmas related! So, I’m sharing with you my five favorite ornaments on our tree! It’s fun to watch ornaments collect through the years and hear the stories that go along with them, isn’t it?  So, here are my 5 favorite ornaments on our tree (in no particular order)!

This ornament was made by one of my great grandmothers!  She was always making things out of yarn and plastic!  This is small mailbox (both my brother and I had one) and on the other side is the year we were born!  I always looked forward to getting this out each year and putting the flag up!  Several years ago (I think I was probably in college) my mom wrote me a little note and stuck it in there!  I’ve never removed it!  I love pulling it out each year and reading it!

3 Reasons to Visit the Anchor Inn – Clear Lake, IA

3 Reasons to Visit the Anchor Inn – Clear Lake, IA

Update: Since publication, the Anchor Inn has closed it’s doors for business as a restaurant.

Locally owned restaurants are my favorite and those in lake towns have a little extra special something about them.  The Anchor Inn has been a staple in North Iowa and Clear Lake for quite some time now.  It’s even switched hands a few times, but one thing remains…excellent food and good service.

I Made A Wreath at Carlson Tree Farm!

I have good news and really good news! The good news is that I’m much better at making a wreath than I was at painting my own painting! The really good news is that the folks at Carlson Tree Farm, rural Coulter Iowa, make it super easy, are super friendly, and super patient!

Last year when the North Iowa Bloggers set the date for making wreaths at the Carlson Tree Farm, I was bummed to see that my schedule was already full with a basketball game (not that I would trade watching my boys for anything), but I was so happy when I didn’t have a scheduling conflict this year!! So, this past Tuesday I headed out to their farm outside of Coulter, Iowa with 4 of my fellow bloggers (Mary of Natural Plus Nursery; Val of Corn, Beans, Pigs, & Kids; Alicia of The Pork Diaries; and Donna of donnahup.com) to see what kind of wreath I could come up with.  I’ll be honest that I was excited and yet hesitant because of my debacle trying to do one of those sip & paint classes.  A painter I am not, but apparently (with the wonderful help of the Carlson ladies) a wreath maker, I can be!
