Gluten-Free Baking

I was diagnosed with a gluten allergy about a year ago! After undergoing several months of lab work, testing, and procedures, the allergy was finally found after I started breaking out in total body rashes! Since going completely gluten free, it’s amazing how much better I feel! My body is reacting to foods as it should be and I have my life back! YAY!

But, it also means I’ve had to learn how to adapt to baking and cooking gluten free! Some things I’ve been able to easily adapt, other things I’ve found that I just buy instead of trying to make and some things I just avoid because they just don’t taste as good. Thankfully, I’ve created this gluten-free apple crisp to enjoy this fall!

Gluten-Free Apple Crisp

I’ve always loved apple crisp! While I love it warmed-up with ice cream or real whipped cream, I can easily eat it with a spoon directly out of the pan! However, I don’t want it too sweet. I don’t want the added ingredients to take away from the apple flavor. This gluten-free apple crisp is the perfect balance of flavors!

Cook’s Notes

  • Obviously this recipe varies from traditional apple crisp as it does not contain flour or brown sugar in the topping. Typically, I try to avoid processed sugars as much as possible.
  • I feel as though this oat only topping lets you taste the apples more and doesn’t overpower them like a traditional crisp topping.
  • The butter in the topping is key! Do not skip it! It gives it a truly buttery apple flavor that is delicious!
  • If you don’t have a gluten allergy, you can easily use regular flour, but reduce the amount to only 1 tablespoon!
  • It’s totally up to you whether you peel your apples or not! I love the peels, so I leave mine on!

PIN it for Later

I hope you find this Gluten-Free Apple Crisp as delicious as I do! It’s a fall classic with just a few small twists to make it allergy friendly and healthier by containing less processed foods! Let me know what you think!

  1. This looks so delicious! Reminds me of a recipe I used to make where you toast the oats in the oven and then you grind half of them in a food processor and combine with whole oats and rest of ingredients like the honey.
