One of our go-to’s for family fun is mini-golf & ice cream! It’s a class summer time activity in Iowa! We recently headed to Clear Lake to do just that with our boys and what a fun time we had.
Pla-Mor Mini-Golf
Growing up, my aunt & uncle lived in Clear Lake and we spent a lot of time with them! They didn’t have kids of their own and always treated us as though we were such! Part of that was going mini-golfing when we would stay with them. We didn’t go min-golfing as a family when I was younger, so this was a huge treat to us! They would always take us to Pla-Mor Mini-Golf on South Shore Drive in Clear Lake! Recently, when T and I were cruising around the lake on a Saturday night, we discovered that they were still open and knew we had to take the boys sometime!
Father’s Day seemed like the perfect time to head to Clear Lake to go mini-golfing! We took off and enjoyed playing “old school” mini-golf! The course has all your classic obstacles like a loopty-loop, wind-mill, and water hazards, but doesn’t have any of the fancy details that the newer courses have! I had a blast golfing with my boys and reminiscing at each hole. Once we were done golfing, we were chatting with the owner and she told us that the course was about 57 years old and had always been in her family! I love that it’s a long time standing family tradition and hope it is for my family as well!
South Shore Sweet Spot
For many years, I’d been jealous of those that would visit the infamous giant ice cream cone on South Shore Drive in Clear Lake. As of this summer, it’s officially my favorite place to grab an ice cream treat! T and I visited a couple weeks ago for my birthday and we instantly knew that it was the perfect place to grab a treat after mini-golf at Pla-Mor Golf.
The South Shore Sweet Spot is a casual joint on the south side of the lake where you can select from ice cream cones, malts, shakes, and sundaes. If you’re feeling the need for a little more, you can grab one of their pizzas! When it comes to the ice cream, you can select from chocolate, vanilla, & twist. Shakes & malts can be “plain” or “speciality” by throwing in sauces, candy pieces, and more! Same with the sundaes, you can keep it simple with vanilla ice cream and hot fudge or throw on brownie pieces, cool whip, & a cherry or even more! You can take your ice cream to go or sit and enjoy it at one of their casual outdoor tables and watch the traffic!
