Oil Pulling with CoCoRoo’s Mint Condition

I’m rarely intimidated by anything.  When I was approached by the fabulous founder of CoCoRoo about trying oil pulling, it was no different.  I was game, but big time intimidated!  I definitely had never oil pulled before.  Actually, I just started using coconut oil for cooking and moisturizing within the last year or so!  But, I love the people at CoCoRoo and their products so much that I was game!

Oil Pulling

Oil pulling, according to Wikipedia, is “an alternative medical practice in which oil is “swished” around the mouth…gargled…or held in the mouth”  There are many benefits that can be obtained from oil pulling.   These include oral health, reduction of headaches, acne, and it can help with whitening teeth!  I like to think that I have pretty good oral hygiene.  However, as I age I find it takes a little more work to keep everything “up to par”!

My Oil Pulling

So, about a little over two weeks ago, I decided to take on this challenge and new adventure!  I was nervous about putting oil in my mouth!  I tend to dislike the texture of a lot of foods, so I figured this has to be one of those!  However, on my first morning, I was pleasantly suprised!  Most resources say that you are to swish with 1-2 tablespoons of oil, but I was nervous, so I typically used about 1/2 tablespoon!  Truth me told, after it was all said and done, I can’t imagine keeping anymore than that in my mouth for 10 minutes!

The amount of Mint Condition I used on a daily basis for oil pulling!

I discovered that it was incredibly hard to “swish” for 10-20 minutes!  I frequently made it about 6-8 minutes and then had to spit & swish with water!  10 minutes is a long time to keep something in your mouth without opening your lips!

I was pleasantly suprised by the minty fresh flavor of CocoRoo’s Mint Condition USDA Organic Coconut Oil Moisturizer!  Yes, it’s coconut oil, but CocoRoo uses organic peppermint oil, which gives it a very fresh feeling and taste!  I found  the minty fresh flavor was a great way to start my day and got rid of my morning breath before heading to my early morning workout!

The texture of Mint Condition was just fine too!  While it comes out as a “solid” it dissolves quickly into a liquid in your mouth and doesn’t leave a greasy film like another kind of oil would!

Results

How were my results from oil pulling?  Here are some pics of before, 1 week in, and after 2 weeks.  I don’t know if any changes are drastic (like I said, I had pretty good dental hygiene prior to this), but I will tell you that my gums feel healthier, conditioned, and it seems to keep bad breath at bay!  And, it seemed to whiten my teeth a little (which I love that it was a natural whitening agent!

Will I continue oil pulling?!  Probably!  It’s not something I’ve ever seen myself doing before, but the benefits are great, so I probably will continue!  And of course, I will continue using CocoRoo’s Mint Condition to do it!

  1. There are a couple more benefits that I noticed after a longer period of time. Receding gums improved (dentist noticed that) and it helped tone my neck and chin. I was doing it at least 10 minutes. I always did it while I was in the shower to keep your mind off of it. Word of warning don’t ever spit it in the drain. Either use the garbage or toilet. It will set back up into a solid. The mint flavor sounds great and would love to try that. Thanks Katy!

    1. Thank you!! Braces did wonders and I still wear my retainer every couple of weeks to keep them straight!

  2. The flavor sounds like it would taste really good. I tried oil pulling once with sunflower oil and got a bad headache – will have to check out this brand’s products.
